Aloha From Maui! – Island Update December 2020

The State of Hawaii has not made any major changes to their travel policies since the start of the new year. Travelers are required to show proof of a negative covid test result taken within 3 days of arrival. It’s been a busy holiday season. It’s encouraging to see stores open again on Front Street and many restaurants are open at 30%-50% capacity.
But bars are still closed.

We’ve all scrambled for words of meaning and comfort to make sense of the impact the pandemic has had on our lives. Adversity offers new solutions and forces us to dwell within ourselves to not only find strength but gratitude for the people in our lives

Market Update – December 2020

December is one of the slowest months of the year but strong buyer demand across most segments of the market, buoyed by record low interest rates, continue to drive a healthy sales pace in the face of a new wave of covid and softening jobs market.
In comparison to 12/31/19, the Maui median sales price increased by 16.9% for Single Family Homes and 22% for Condominiums.
Kapalua outperformed the market in 2020. Single Family Sales Volume was up 87%. In comparison, in Wailea/Makena, the competing market Sales Volume was down 18%.

In comparison to mid-year 2019, the number of residential sales are down 15.6% and condominium sales are down 22.3%. This is not surprising as May and June were expected to be the worst month for the impact of Coronavirus. Tournament of Champions – January 2021

Sentry Tournament of Champions ~ January 7-10
The best golfers in the world converged on the Plantation Course for the PGA TOUR season-opening Tournament of Champions. I was one of the lucky 200 spectators who got watch golf’s greatest players compete for this prestigious title in an elite field comprised of only winners from the previous PGA TOUR season. That’s runner-up Joaquim Nieman from Chile on top and Zander Schaffle on bottom. Two perfect golf swings. That’s me and my buddy Scott Essig celebrating his 60th birthday in the Sentry blue chairs trying to convince people we were guest commentators.
